Bridging the Gap
This work will not be submitted but will provide a good foundation of knowledge that will give you a positive start with your course.
We will start the physical geography side of the course by looking at the earth’s life support systems and in particular the carbon and water cycle. Spend some time refreshing your knowledge of how carbon emissions change the climate and how this can be managed. Also consider how water moves through the water cycle and how human action may change this.
In human geography you will study the nature of places. Look back over your work on a city in a HIC and a city in an LIC/NEE and consider what factors have shaped the nature of that place.
Transition Work
This work is to be completed before starting your course. The work will be set on Taster Day and due in during the first full week of College. This work will be assessed alongside subject assessments and Attitude to Learning.
You need to research some of the key locations from around the world that we will study in Year 12 Geography.
Use the sheet for guidance to produce a piece of work describing the location of each key place as well as 3 key facts from your research.
You can submit the work as a handwritten piece or word process using the guidance sheet.
Preparation for September
Find below the guidance on what will be required from September for your subjects. Subject textbooks are listed in priority order. Please see guidance before purchasing any textbooks.
You will need at least one folder for geography; although you may prefer a different one for human and physical geography to save you bringing the whole thing in each day.
You will need to divide your folder up into the key ideas of each topic. We will go through these key ideas in the first lesson.
The front of your folder should contain information on the course structure and your reading log – both of these will be given to you in the first week.
