Remembering what we know about taking surveys so we can get to know each other better. What better way to get to know each other than asking questions and taking surveys. A great intro to the year!
First we do together... then the students get a turn to put their learning into action. Check us out in action as we took a survey of our class and then created our own bar graph looking at success criteria (knowing what we need and what we should be learning).
Students worked in groups to create their own bar graphs. We then put them up around the classroom and took turns explaining what we liked about the graphs, and things that could be improved upon for next time.
Check out how we learn! We took some of our get to know you surveys and combined them into our first bar graph. Interesting to see how 3-1 learns best and how we should gear our teaching towards their strengths.
We can represent numbers in different ways! Check out our first number talk in which students were challenged to come up with as many different ways to represent a number as they possibly could. Well done 3-1!
Anchor charts allow us to see the information that we should add to our learning. This anchor chart is a summary of bar graphs that we refer to often in our class to make sure we are not missing anything.
Did you know that we can represent our information in bar graphs in two different directions? Here you see the same data represented in a vertical bar graph and a horizontal bar graph using the same data.
One of our discussions and language lessons this week involved brainstorming adjectives to describe Terry Fox. After watching a video on Terry and having a class discussion, students were sent off to collaborate and come up with different adjectives. We then combined ideas and created a word cloud to summarize our ideas. Proud of you 3-1!
After reading the story Spaghetti on a Hot Dog Bun, we looked at our lives and discussed the differences between us and how they make us unique. These mind maps are just a small glimpse into the things that we cannot imagine our life without.
My summer was... ONE IN A MELON! Students were challenged to write about the best part of their summers using 3 sentences. This was an introduction to success criteria and also allows us to see the things that we need to work on.
We have been looking at nouns, verbs, and adjectives. These details help to make a juicy sentence by adding details. Play game at home to challenge your child to describe their surroundings, find nouns while you are out shopping, or even act out verbs at home. These are all easy examples of how to solidify their learning from the classroom and making a strong home-school connection.
We have started our unit on forces. These images show that the forces of push and pull are all around us in different ways. Can you spot forces in and around your home?
Our first lessons in art focused around the idea of line. We spoke about how lines can represent feelings and took our time exploring, drawing, and reflecting on zigzag lines, straight lines, curved, lines, swirly lines, and many more. After reading the story Only One You, students were challenged to self reflect on which lines would represent them and why. They created a plan for their very own fish rock designed with their lines and we are currently seeing these designs come to life! I can't wait to see how they turn out!
We are lucky enough to have Health with Mrs Grant on Thursdays.
We are lucky enough to have Drama/Dance with Ms Bedford on Mondays. We are currently learning Drama and can't wait to continue our lessons.
