We have been working har on subtraction in class. We have learned multiple different ways to attempt subtraction remembering that we always start at the ones column to make sure we can tell if regrouping or borrowing is needed. Ask your child to show you what their favourite subtraction strategy is.
We have been focusing on learning about and explaining "how to" do a specific task. Our favourite in class examples are "How to draw a stickman" and "How to draw a snowman".
Please have a look at the procedural anchor chart and the items that are needed to make a successful procedural writing piece.
Remember that we look at any writing through our 6+1 writers traits: Ideas, Sentence Fluency, Organization, Voice, Conventions, Word Choice, and Publishing.
We have been applying our RAFT to help us to write different procedural writing pieces. Each student was allowed to choose their own topic under the purpose of Procedural Writing.
We have been learning about Ontario and the 3 land form regions. We have learned that the different uses of land depend on what the land has to offer. Looking at different communities, we have realized that there are different uses on the land. Please discuss and look at different examples of the land use in Milton when out with your child to help support their learning.
A different perspective!
As we have been using Google maps for a birds eye view of Ontario, we thought it would be fun to connect this perspective to an art assignment. Following a procedural writing task, we created these birds eyes view snow people! So much fun, and a great looking class of snow people!
