Megalosaurus means great lizard. It was a large meat eating dinosaur. It lived during the middle Jurassic period. Megalosaurus was a close relative of Torvosaurus.
It was approximately 30 feet long and 9.8feet tall. When first discovered, it was thought to be a 6-9 meters (20-30 feet long) giant lizard! The Megalosaurus weighed around 2,200-6,600 pounds. It's diet mainly consisted of large sauropods like Apatosaurus and other large plant eating dinosaurs. It was the first dinosaur ever named and one of the first dinosaurs discovered. It lived in England. It weighed 2200. It was bipedal meaning it walked on two legs like us. It probably had a somewhat strong bite force. It is in the family Megalosauridae.
It was about half the size of the T. rex and one eighth of its weight. Megalosaurus was named after William Buckland, who discovered it.
