A seismograph
An earthquake is shaking on the surface of the lithosphere that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are measured on the Richter scale. Most Earthquakes happen on the ring of fire. People that study earthquakes are called seismologists. Earthquakes can cause other natural disasters like Tsunamis. In fact, they are the most common cause of tsunamis. Some earthquakes are caused by humans. An earthquake swarm is when a bunch of small earthquakes occur. One way to predict earthquakes is animals, they may do irregular behavior before an earthquake. Scientists think that this may be a good early warning sign. Modern earthquake predictions rely on networks of seismometers. These measure ground motion, helping scientists quickly locate earthquakes and assess their magnitude. This is key to saving lives. Many schools do earthquake drills to prepare for earthquakes. Japan is the country that is making the most earthquake resistant marital. This is used so that buildings do not fall and hurt people. This causes earthquakes to do less damage. The largest earthquake in modern history was in Chile during 1960, with a magnitude of 9.5. The Indian Ocean Earthquake and tsunamis in 2004 resulted in a mindboggling 230,000 deaths. To survive an Earthquake, you should stay in a place where nothing can fall on top of you.
