Travel Stipends for Neighbor Island Candidates

Neighbor island residents are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to attend the weekend face-to-face classes.  The MEdT program will issue a stipend to offset the cost of travel.  Candidate must be present in class, and must be in good academic standing.  The stipend is $170 for residents of Kaua‘i, Lana‘i, Maui, Moloka‘i, Ni‘ihau.  Hawai‘i island residents receive $190.  Candidates will receive an extra $45 to offset the cost of lodging the night before class, and another $45 if the classes end after 5pm.

Candidates must submit a WH-1 form in order to receive the stipend (see FMO website for all disbursing forms).

Tuition Stipends for Dual Secondary / Special Education Candidates

Tuition stipends may be available for candidates in the Dual Secondary / Special Education cohort if the candidate commits to teaching Special Education for three (3) years in the Hawaii Department of Education.  The stipend program is approved by the DOE in May of each year.  Incoming cohorts will be notified of the opportunity to participate shortly after receiving their admission packet.  Candidates will receive a stipend for a total of 31 credits over four (4) checks (7.75 credits each check).  The amount will depend on whether the candidate is paying resident or non-resident tuition.

Stipends are processed by the Special Education Department. Candidates should contact the Special Education Department Office with questions about the stipend.

Tuition & Travel Stipends for GOO (Grow Our Own) Recipients

Tuition and travel stipends may be available for secondary education candidates who commit to teaching for three (3) years in the Hawaii Department of Education.  The travel stipend for GOO is a flat rate of $250.00.  Funding is limited and the application process is competitive. Please complete a new WH-1 form with your new address and submit to MEdT Office for Neighbor island travel stipend or SPED Office for Dual Secondary / SPED stipend.
