Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
Yes, with Dennon and Gauge
What materials will you need for your project?
Cardboard, Duct Tape, Measuring Tape, iPad, Removable Goggles, Internet
What is your plan to create in this project?
Make Box VR 2
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will have actual lenses and a removable head strap.
I did planning questions and ten good things, you know, the usual. Dennon has to bring in his pre-made lenses for the cardboard. since we don't have them. today is planning day.
Dennon wants us to start on the shell because he forgot the lenses... without measurements... oh boy. Anyways, I started with the controllers, we needed finger tacking so we decided on a sort of HTC vibe story of tracking, lore-wise, we acquired the rights to use the monitoring and are partnering with HTC Vibe. lore will appear in a bolder font. we added a tracking pad and a finer top.
We finished the second controller after ripping out the lens of a Google cardboard. We acquired the lenses after Google's Cardboard VR flopped and they cancelled it, they gave the rights to us so we could use our lenses.
I made a phone case kind of thing to hold the iPod, I also added some straps and made sure the view wasn't obstructed, but it can still come out if necessary.
I added some detail to sharpen the back and added a side wall to make sure it's the correct distance away from the iPod. Dennon made an adjustable head strap from velcro used on the old Google cardboard. tomorrow I want to finish the casing and install the lenses, but I know we won't have enough time.
Dennon wants the whole project done today... WHAT?! We haven't installed the lenses or the head strap, the game isn't finished, the iPod doesn't work, we haven't started filming or editing, and he wants it done today. it's so annoying and want to extend our time to at least Monday cuz we can finish the actual headpiece tomorrow, film and edit Friday, and turn in Monday.
I went right to work on the lenses and the front part of the headset. I broke the first one so I made another, you can see part of it in the background of this photo. and now it looks like a robot with a mouth. I figured out a way to cut the holes and stick them into the cardboard without any glue, tape, or holding them with my hands. I tried it out for the first time and it works! the lenses were perfect. the only issue was, it was restricted by the straps. so I decided to remove them, the casing is too tight any way that it makes it easier to see. we named it, "BoxVrMini" Tomorrow we quickly attach the head strap, draw the logo, and shoot the video. On Monday we edit it and finish our reflection for a finally done project.
We quickly glued on the strap and then we started filming, i am so excited about this video! all we need to do is edit this and it will be done.
The project is due today and I am having some account issues so I might not be able to do much today, but it will be done and turned in today. I did my reflection and tomorrow I will turn it in when the video is done loading.
Final Video
Using cardboard, iPod, and hot glue, I created the BoxVrMini because I wanted to make my friend's dream of making his headset from 7th-grade work. During this process, I learned to never use duct tape and hot glue, it will blow up in your face, literally. the strap that keeps the headset away from my face snapped because it didn't stick. The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to creative communicator because our group put our collective knowledge together to collaborate and make a successful product of our desired outcome. a challenge I overcame on this project was the time crunch. I was able to do it by asking for more days, but maybe too much. we are done a day early. Given a chance to do this again, I would change lens positioning. The reason why I would change it is because it restricted the view.
