Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I will be working in a group of three.
What materials will you need for your project?
For this project, I will need the app Blockly and a Dash Robot.
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan is to code the robot to run through a wall. We will test it multiple times before getting the perfect outcome. We won't make the Dash make any special sounds because we will add it in through iMovie.
What unique qualities will your project have?
The unique quality is that the robot won't just use the robot. We'll also use legos to make a detailed scene.
List of Ten Good Ideas
A celebration
A party
A speech
A road trip
An obstacle course
Play music
Dance presentation
A delivery
Dress him up in santa clothes and make him says Ho Ho Ho
Dress him in col guy clothes and make him say a message
Using the Blockly app and a Dash robot Icreated a code. This code was for the Dash to smash through a wall because the Dash could have the most creativity. This is because there's LEGOs and the ability to make speech, move, and look in different directions.
During this process, I learned how to make a robot do things that there aren't parts for. For example, the Bolt jumping. There's no legs, pistons, or anything that gives them the ability to jump. However, by making it spin fast enough, it jumped a centimeter or two up in the air.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Knowledge Constructor because I had no understanding of coding robots. In the end, I learned how to code four different robots to do different tasks. I learned how to do these things from multiple websites on Google and trial and error.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making the Sphero Bolt do complex actions. I was able to do it by reading multiple passages on Google. Also, we messed with a couple actions, trying to figure out what they do.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change how complicated our fifth project was. The reason why I would change it is because there was no light flashes, celebration. These elements would make the scene a lot more complex. Because of this, it would be more fun to watch.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program at Hastings High School. This is because to make the robots do their actions, you had to code it. This involves a lot of computer programming. My project connects to careers in Tool North Inc. In this job you program multiple kinds of robots.
