operation board
Using Makey Makey in a group with Abbie and Ally we made a operation game board using cardboard, tinfoil and tape. We made an operation game board by making a box out of cardboard, drawing a person and cutting wholes in the top piece of cardboard to put the removable pieces in. We lined it with tin foil so when you touch the sides the makey makey will make a noise so you know you lost. We used play dough for the peices that we tried to pick up, when you hit the edge you would hear a noise that tells you that you had lost.
During this process I learned that we needed to put tin foil around the edges of our holes so that the makey makey could tell us when we bumped the sides of the holes and lost the game. We forgot to line the holes with tinfoil but we eventually did. We also had to figure out where we needed to clip on the makey makeys but we eventually got it to work.
The seven standards of the class are Empowered learner, Digital citizen, Knowledge constructor, Innovative designer, Computational thinker, Creative communicator, and Global collaborator. My project ties to Innovative designer because we had to change a lot of our project as we worked on it. Like when we needed to add the lining of tin foil on the holes.
A challenge I overcame on this project was when our makey makey wasn't working. I was able to fix this by better connecting the cords to the tin foil pieces and the makey makey. I also was able to help fix it when I created the ring of tin foil to go on my finger. Another challenge is with our play dough, most of the play dough that we had was old and gross so we only had one that wasn't too bad which was the orange one that we used.
Given a chance to do this again I would change how we made the box. Abbie, Ally and I made a whole box for our game board that we didn't even use. The reason why I would change this is because it wasted a bunch of our time that we could have spent with our makey makey instead of taping the box.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offer Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Construction Trades because people can make different types of game boards that need sounds to play with. My project connects with careers in making games and designing boards for kids to play with. We could hook up the makey makey to different boards that would make noises while you play. You could also use it with games that don't need boards, maybe if you touch a part of a toy it makes different noises with each part that you touch.
I am in a group with Abbie and Ally. Our project needs, play dough, tin foil, carboard, and the makey makey. Our plan to make this project is to start with making the box and board out of carboard, then we draw the persons body and create holes in it to put our play dough it. We lined the holes with tin foil and made pockets to hold the play dough. After we set up the board we figured out the makey makey set up and connect it to the board. We then place the play dough pieces, connect the makey makey to me and I test out the game. Some unique qualities our project has was that we used the piano and different noises from the piano as our buzzer for the board, nothing really special.
