Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I will be working by myself for this project.
What materials will you need for your project?
MircoBit, computer, iPad, Microsoft MakeCode, Google.
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan for this project is to create an energy cost calculator.
What unique qualities will your project have?
Some unique qualities my project will have is that it will be using custom variables to code it to work properly.
I decided what I was going to use for this project. Set up the page on my website. Made my list of ten good ideas. Answered planning questions and looked up ideas for micro bits. Messed around with the micro bit code and tested it out.
I worked with coding Micro Bits a little bit more. Followed some more tutorials on how to code with microbits. Looked up some ideas of what to do with microbits.
I worked with some coding again today. Decided on what I was gonna make and looked up how to make it. Made the variables I needed and started on the code of my project.
I messed the code up but fixed it. I finished coding and tested the code. I worked on my website a bit.
Finished my website. Made a video of my project. I did my reflections and added words and music to the video.
Using Google, Microsoft Make-code, Micro-bit, and a computer. I was able to create a way to calculate the cost of energy with a Micro-bit. I created this because I wanted a way to find what the cost of the amount of energy used over a certain about of time.
During this process, I learned how to work with variables in the coding. I was able to do this by working around with them and if that didn't work I followed a tutorial on how to work with variables and coding.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to the Empowered Learner standard because I was able to choose what I wanted to create and how to create it for my project..
A challenge I overcame on this project was deciding what to make. I was able to do it by watching many different tutorials on Micro-bits, reading tutorials, and following the provided tutorials in Microsoft Make-code.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change what the actually project is itself. The reason why I would change it is because I'm not sure what I would even do with an energy cost calculator.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in web developer because I coded the Micro-bit to do a specific task.
