For this project I will be working by myself, I will be needing a sewing machine, fabric, thread, and pins. I plan to create a tank top for my sister. My project will have a very unique pattern making it indifferent from others.
Using a sewing machine I created a yellow tank-top. I created this for my sister due to her abundance of time spent outside and the warm weather approaching. It is a thin and light colored material to allow for air flow and in hopes of not attracting the sun.
During this process I learned how to flip the straps inside out in order to have them facing the correct way after being sewn. It is a very difficult and time consuming process to make the tiny, thin straps go inside out. This portion of the shirt alone took about forty-five minutes to complete.
The seven standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to global collaborator because in areas that I wasn't completely sure on how to complete, I would either call a friend or grandparent, or go onto YouTube to find an efficient way to get it done. Without the help from outside resources I would've been unable to complete the shirt.
A challenge I overcame on this project working with the fabric. This was difficult because of how stretchy and thin the material was. To help solve the problem as I was sewing I would pull the fabric taught to prevent it from getting caught on the needle.
Given a chance to do this project again I would choose to change the fabric I used. As previously described it was very hard to overall work with. It was also hard to fit it on due to the thin material and it's strange and random creasing.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers agriculture, business management, computer programming, construction trades, culinary arts, digital multimedia, engineering design, finance, insurance, marketing. My project connects to engineering design CTE program at Hastings High School because I had many parts that had to be planned and executed by hand to create this shirt. My project connects to careers in clothing design.
