For this project I will be working with a partner. We will be needing an IPad with the Tello app downloaded as well as the Tello drone. We plan to create an overview of a heavy duty projector placed in the commons attached to the very high ceiling. A unique quality that my project will have is that rather than a multitude of pictures there is actually a video displaying to top of the projector.
Using Tello, I created a video of an installed projector. I did this to be able to show the different parts and pieces of said projector. I also had hoped to see if it was installed any differently since it was much larger than the other projectors in the building.
During this process I learned some of the easier flight patterns of the Tello and it's tendency to drift. This helped me by ensuring that I was as knowledgeable to fly it as possible to prevent it from running into the projector. I also learned how to take off, land, and put together the drone.
The seven standards of the class are empowered learner, digital citizen, knowledge constructor, innovative designer, computational thinker, creative communicator, and global collaborator. My project ties to computational thinker because I had to try and figure out the best way to ensure the safety of both of the technological items. I also used this standard by having to try more than one app to operate the drone.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the initial flying process. We had begun using the coding version of the app rather than the more simplistic flying app. We also struggled with the rate in which it stopping flying, when we released the toggle it would still take about two seconds to stop which when going quickly can go quite far.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the angles in which we showed the projector. I would also inspect more than just the projector seeing as I have questions about other technological units in the area. I would also like to go slightly higher than the projector next time in order to get a proper overview of it.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers agriculture, business management, computer programming, construction trades, culinary arts, digital multimedia, engineering design, finance, insurance, and marketing. My project connects to computer programming because we first had to program the drone, then change to free flying. My project connects to careers in technological displaying.
