For this project I will be working alone, I will need the button making press as well as the supplies to form the button. I plan to create two buttons one with an amphibian and one with a bearded dragon. The unique qualities my project will have are sideways pins to hold them in place rather than the original direction for an easier form of attachment.
Using the button press, I created two buttons. One of the buttons had an amphibian on it and the other had a bearded dragon. I made created these because of my sisters love for lizards as well as her lesser love for buttons.
During this process, I learned the correct way to layer the different materials to create the button. There is also a particular way to position some of the materials depending on where you would like the actual pin to be. You must also begin by flipping the mental piece to what looks like it would be upside down.
The seven standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to computational thinker because I had to figure out the proper ways to use my tools. If I had not used trial and error and watch informational videos on the device then I would be unable to use it correctly and properly execute my design.
A challenge I overcame on the project was putting the materials in the correct order as well as putting enough pressure on the press. When I did not layer the metal, image, and clear plastic correctly the button would not workout. As well as if I didn't put enough pressure on the press. When I didn't use enough pressure the plastic layer would not hold the image down to the metal adequately and it would fall off.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the the positioning of the plastic piece with the pin on it. I would also like to print from my house next time rather than the school to be able to use colored ink rather than black and white. The reason why I would do this is to make the button more pleasing to the eye.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to Marketing because you could use the pins in order to advertise various things such as a preferred candidate or simply an interest that you have. My project connects to careers in advertisement.
