For this project, I will be working by myself. I will need access to Tinkercad, the laser cutter, and wood. I plan to create a name badge for my sister's lizard Sratch. One unique quality that my project will have is an odd hexagonal shape.
Using Tikercad, I created a name tag for a bearded dragon named Scratch. I made the name tag to sit above her cage as a cute decoration. I wanted to make this as a valentines day present for the lizard.
During this process, I learned that you must use two different SVG's one for the shape of the name tag and one for the name itself. I also learned that you need to have an intricate enough design in order for the project to go through. Therefore I went with a more intricate shape to make the design more appealing.
The seven standards of the class are empowered learner, digital citizen, knowledge constructor, innovative designer, computational thinker, creative communicator, and global collaborator. My project connects to global collaborator because I needed tips from multiple classmates and instructors on the internet. Without the help from multiple other people, I wouldn't have been able to figure it out.
A challenge I overcame on this project was trying to figure out what an adequate design looks like for the laser cutter. I also figured out that you must send two different SVG's depending on what the product that you're trying to make is. I overcame these obstacles by asking for help and using my resources to figure out how to do it the correct way.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to Engineering Design because I had to engineer a design to print and then use the laser cutters programming for the actual cut and engraving. With this skill I could apply to a career in the automotive industry to program the lasers to cut parts to shape and size.
