This mathematics option prepares students for VCE Mathematical Methods and/or VCE Specialist Mathematics.
In Semester One, the following topics are studied: Indices and surds, Coordinate geometry, Algebra, Linear relationship and simultaneous linear equations, Trigonometry and Pythagoras' Theorem.
In Semester Two, the following topics are studied: Quadratic algebra, Circle geometry, Quadratic relations and their graphs, Non-linear functions and their graphs, Probability, Statistics, Measurement, Deductive geometry.
Students are assessed using a combination of topic tests, examinations, investigations and modelling tasks. The use of the CAS calculator is introduced in Year 10 and forms an important part of students' preparation for VCE mathematics.
