This subject allows students to satisfy tertiary entry requirements that require "any Mathematics".
An accelerated Units 3&4 General Mathematics pathway is offered to students as a Year 11 invitation only course option if they wish not to study Specialist Mathematics in VCE. Students considering this option should consult with the Head of Mathematics and the Careers and Pathways Manager. To be considered for this accelerated pathway students must have these qualities.
Achieving Outstanding grades in Year 10 Mathematics.
A consistent history of high achievement in mathematics.
A history of consistent learning behaviours in their progress reports.
Intend on studying Mathematical Methods in Year 11 and Year 12.
A student's performance in other subjects, especially English, is taken into consideration when selecting students for this pathway, as there is a heavy language component in this subject.
Most students considering this pathway are encouraged to instead study Units 1&2 Specialist Mathematics in Year 11 and then transfer into Units 3&4 General Mathematics in Year 12 if they find Specialist Mathematics too challenging.
