This mathematics option prepares students for VCE General Mathematics.
In Semester One the following topics are studied: Indices, Algebra, Linear relationship, simultaneous equations, Trigonometry and Pythagoras' Theorem.
In Semester Two, the following topics are studied: Statistics, Measurement, Financial arithmetic, Matrices and Networks.
Students are assessed using a combination of topic tests, examinations, investigations and modelling tasks. The use of the CAS calculator is introduced in Year 10 and forms an important part of students' preparation for VCE mathematics.
Students who undertake General Mathematics in Year 10 will not be able to enrol in VCE Mathematical Methods when they are in Year 11. Students need to be certain that this will not be a prerequisite for any tertiary pathway before selecting this option.
If in doubt, students should select Year 10 Mathematical Methods.
