Monica Mena

Mónica Mena-Cuellar, is an elementary FLES Spanish teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools. She has taught for more than 25 years in Colombia in Elementary, Middle and High School levels and in the United States for Preschool and Elementary schools. 

She is Specialist in “Social Studies and Science and Technological Innovation (STS)” and has a master's degree in “Enseñanza del Español y su Cultura” from Universidad de Granada of Spain. 

She has participated and assisted in the developing policy for Technology Education Curriculum for Public Schools in Bogotá D.C. in  Colombia in 2012. She was a Consultant in research development and published “Instructional materials for teachers and students for 1st-6th grades” needed for an appropriate learning context in Technology Education, with the Corporation Didactica Recursos Educativos –ALECOP of Pais Vasco. She has published an Article called: “La Educación de Tecnología en Colombia” in the Educative Magazine Aula editorial GRAO of Spain as well. 

Monica Mena has initiated research and is very interested in the latest Neurosciences studies and its connection with the teaching/learning to use in our World Languages Classrooms. 

In 2024, she had the honor to be a speaker in the annual conference VADLEN Dual Language/ Immersion (DL/I) 2024, and other prestigious conferences such as FLAVA 2023, GWATFL 2023, and In-Service FCPS 2023 for FLES Spanish Teachers. 

Ms. Monica, as students call her, is  looking forward to learning from all of you  being a GWATFL member to be updated in challenges and share ideas, experiences that as teachers we are facing in our profession.

Allison Perryman (2022-2023)

Biography

Allison Perryman has been teaching Spanish for over a decade and adores her career.  While an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, Allison traveled to and lived in Sevilla, Spain.  Allison recently completed her Masters degree in Spanish Linguistics at Middlebury College and has aspirations of pursuing a Doctorate in the future.  You can learn more about her at TheCulturalClassroom.Blog and at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Cultural-Classroom-By-Sra-Perryman. Allison became a GWATFL MAP in 2022.
