Giant Swallowtail (Papilio Cresphontes)
Giant Swallowtail caterpillars use a variety of plants as their host plant. The plants in this area that they use include members of the citrus family (ex: orange), Rue, and Prickly ash.
This caterpillar has a brown head, and two large white bands that are separated by one large brown band. Like other members of the swallowtail family this caterpillar evolved to look like a snake to scare off predators
The giant swallowtail chrysalis is very similar to the spicebush swallowtails chrysalis, it is brown, kind to triangle shaped, and has two horns at the front
This butterfly can be identified because it is mostly black with yellow stripes, which is the opposite of the tiger swallowtail. This butterfly is also large (hence the name giant swallowtail), and has a pretty distinctive pattern on its wings.
