Words are a part of the articles however, the photos are supposed to make you feel something the words alone could not. They tend to be shorter than other articles but it can vary depending on the subject.
Photos on a subject can harbor more weight because they are image proof. Images have a tendency to make readers feel more emotion than just descriptive words because you have to experience it. Adding photos also helps with credability because authentic photos are harder to be biased that words.
