The year is finally coming to a close and for, a large chunk of students, that means that it is finally time to graduate. We have a handful (three) seniors in The Scroll this year that have put so much time and effort into helping make our issues the best that they can be.-- even when they are overworking themselves, despite us calling them out on it time and time again (I’m looking at you, Deenie). Regardless, we have been so lucky to have these people on our team this year, even though they probably have a million other things to be doing. I’ve been putting off writing this article because, as much as I’m going to make jokes, I’m secretly extremely sad about these people leaving. So... without further ado, for one last time this year, let’s dive in.
Okay, there’s a lot to say about them, and the first thing is acknowledging how much they have stacked onto their plate this year. It is actually insane. President of multiple clubs, involved in even more, doing theatre, working, and a bunch of other stuff outside of all of this-- it is insane to think of how they managed it. Despite all of this (and all of us yelling at them to take a break), they have always kept a smile on their face and have always shown us here at The Scroll nothing but kindness and love. Everything they have done for us here at The Scroll means the world to us, and thinking about how we are going to keep it running next year without them is a daunting thought, but we are excited to see them grow and build a life outside of high school. They have helped me grow so much as a person and I’m honestly a little nervous to make it through next year without their caring and guiding hand. We are so proud of them and so grateful for everything they have done for the people in their life. I am not the only one in The Scroll that Deenie has made an impact on. Nathaniel Lee, next year's VIce President of The Scroll, says, "Deenie is amazing and one of the kindest people I have ever met, and I've met quite a few people". Deenie, if you are reading this, then we will continue to beg you to let yourself breathe even when you are gone because we KNOW that you are going to keep yourself wildly busy when you are gone.
Kayla has grown to be one of the best friends I’ve made in the last two years so writing this section is gonna be a challenge. This girl has put up with all of my obnoxiousness over the last couple of years, whether it’s me rambling about whatever special interest I have that week to my consistent “your mom” jokes, she’s always been there. I don’t really have anything mean to say to her, but she did try to get me to make fun of her speech impediment but I’m not sure that I should. Instead, here's a couple words from two of the people at our table in our journalism class. Peter Easterwood, GPHS sophomore, said, "Kayla was the nicest person in The Scroll and I'll miss her but I still have hatred for being better than me at writing." Lillie Olson, editor of The Scroll, said that "Kayla cooks the best goodies and formats The Scroll the best way while keeping our table the funnest 'work' environment". To finish this section off, I want to say that Kayla has made such an impact on my life and has been there through everything in the last couple of years. I’ll miss her.
I haven’t talked to him a whole bunch in the year that I’ve known him but every interaction I’ve ever had has been very sweet and enjoyable. His articles are always so interesting to read and I’m so glad that we’ve had the kind of content that he writes consistently throughout this year. I don’t have anything to playfully make fun of him for either, so this will just be a sweet sendoff. GPHS freshman Rylie Revercomb would like to say that "whenever Connor talked, he seemed very sweet and funny." Connor, we hope that everything goes well for you after high school and that you’ll be happy doing whatever you are doing.
All in all, everyone here at The Scroll is so grateful for all of these wonderful people that have helped make our newspaper what it is today. All of the work they’ve put in this year makes our issues even better and we’re sad to see them go but we know that they’re all going to go on to do great things. We know we’ll see them again as most of them have promised to stop by from time to time. This is also a sendoff to any seniors reading this right now. We’re all so proud of all of you guys. We’re all so excited to see what you all are going to do.
