Today Dr. R was in the reasearch lab and gave us some very usefull insight on how to sterilize our beakers. The idea he provided was to fill each of the beakers with water and boil it over the flame. We wanted to test how effective this was so we did two trials, each boiling water for one minute and then putting them in the UV sterilizer. We then swabbed and plated each.

Today we were looked at the plates from Monday, we saw that there was no visible bacterial gowth so we assumed this method of cleaning worked. With that noted we took the remaining of our beakers and washed the debris out of them and reserilized them using our new found method.

Today we realized that the beakers had not been stored in a very sanitary manner, and so we redid the process and decided to change their positioning. We spent most of the day on this process and cleaned five beakers fully. Additionally, we made progress on deciding how to acquire our data and finished the day by resting each beaker face down on the bench paper. We will analyze the beakers on Thursday.

Today Jackson was absent due to illness and I partook in Adam's running trial. After this, I took the yesterday cleaned beakers and melted some agar while I prepared to do tests. I swabbed each beaker and streaked the corrisponding plate (each beaker was numbered 1-5 and so was each agar plate). I wrapped the plates and placed them in the incubator to conclude the day.

Today we analyzed our plates from yesterday. As per what we expexted all plates had no growth exept plate two. In order to find out what bacteria was infecting plate two we conducted a gram stain. We concluded that it was a gram negative bacteria. We also came to the agreement that we will be testing the effects of different dilutions of hot sauces on bacteria and not different scoville levels.
