Overture
Once on a winter’s night,
When all the house was sleeping,
There came a wondrous sight,
A spectacle before the eyes.
Toys underneath the tree,
With soldier mice competing,
All seemed to come to life.
A battle was about to start.
The Mouse King roared,
And waved his sword,
But all in vain,
He was defeated.
Then peace returned again,
A kingdom ever grateful.
Join with the happy band,
And journey to the land of sweets.
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
Delicate and lovely dancers with
Nimble feet, so petite, float across the floor.
Beautiful as snowflakes, with each beat,
In air meet, then retreat, as they race and soar;
Gently swaying, interplaying, grace displaying, then stop!
Russian Dance: Trepak
(Hark to the sight of Cossacks dancing.
See them, row by row, advancing.
Squatting, kicking, tempo’s quick’ning,
At a hurried pace they go.
Forcibly the stage commanding,
With a feat of strength demanding.
Colours streaming, costumes gleaming,
Adding to the brilliant show.
What athletic skill they’re showing,
Crossing, turning to-and-froing,
Racing to the final bow.)
Dance of the Reed Flutes
Tiny wooden flutes, with music fair,
Tantalize, revitalize the senses;
Melodies descending,
Charm as they are sending
Pleasure without ending,
With each graceful trill.
Tiny wooden flutes, their lovely notes
Fall upon the ear in sweet abandon;
Tenderly alluring,
Calmly reassuring
Those who believe.
Waltz of the Flowers
Two people hand in hand,
Making a portrait of beauty;
Merriment is in the cool night air,
Happy thought are blooming ev’rywhere.
All at once and enchanted scene is unfolding.
Gliding, sliding, twirling,
Elegantly, whirling,
Hearts together turning,
Joined now this moment as one.
Love lasts forever,
Parting them never.
Surely it’s more than a dream!

On every street and lane,
The first thing that you say
To everyone you meet is
Gong xi, gong xi ni ya
Chorus:
||: Gong xi, gong xi, gong xi ni ya
Gong xi, gong xi, gong xi ni :||
(Best wishes, best wishes, best wishes to you
Best wishes, best wishes, best wishes to you)
Winter is ending
This is really great news
Warm spring breezes
Wake up all the land
(Chorus)
Ice and snow melt away
Plum blossoms are in bloom
Long and dark nights are in the past
Roosters sing their songs
(Chorus)
Goodbye to so many
Troubles and challenges
We long for the days when
Spring has its arrival
(Chorus)
On every street and lane,
The first thing that you say
To everyone you meet is
Gong xi, gong xi ni ya
(Chorus)

There’s a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too,
And up in the nurs-ry and absurd little bird
Is popping out to say “coo-coo.”
Cuckcoo, cuckoo
Cuckcoo, cuckoo
Cuckoo, to you
Regretfully they tell us,
But firmly they compel us
To say goodbye to you.
So long, farewell,
Auf wiedersehn, goodnight,
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
So long, farewell,
Auf wiedersehn, adieu,
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu.
So long, farewell, Au’voir,
Auf wiedersehn,
I’d like to stay and finish out the day.
So long, farewell,
Auf viedersehn, goodbye,
I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye, goodbye.
I’m glad to go, I cannot tell a lie.
I flit, I float, I fleetly flee, I fly.
The sun has gone to bed and so much I.
So long, farewell,
Auf wiedersehn, goodbye;
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye!
