Teaching Philosophy

I believe every child deserves the chance to try new things, understand and be able to apply concepts they learn, and have fun while learning. Through a teacher’s careful planning, open mind, and encouragement, students should have lots of opportunities to try, understand, and succeed at obtaining new knowledge and skills throughout their education.

Through creating, listening, and performing in music education students are given the chance to work with others towards a common goal, build confidence, and be creative in individual or group settings. Music education enforces a sense of community, respect, and responsibility amongst those who participate. For this reason, it is important that all children are given the opportunity to participate in music and experience these values. To facilitate this type of learning I make sure to thoroughly familiarize myself with subject material and resources, stay organized, plan carefully, and encourage students to do their best and have fun while learning music.

As a music educator, I strive to get to know my students’ interests and abilities to allow me to create the most meaningful and fulfilling music education experience possible for them. Through careful planning and getting to know my students, my music classroom will harvest cooperation and creativity, provide students with the opportunity to try a variety of musical activities, and be a safe and supportive environment for student learning.
