As Term 1 draws to a close, we thought it would be a good time to check in with students to see what they think about their English classes. We asked students from all year levels to share their thoughts. Here is a sample of what they had to say:
“Our English class is interactive. You get to speak your mind without fear of judgment. It moves at a good pace.”
“Our English teacher is fun, interactive, and entertaining. [The class] is very lively and rewarding. Our teacher always encourages us to do well and provides us with support when we need it.”
“Our English teachers are nice and caring toward students, explaining things in detail, even one-on-one, when necessary. The class is very interactive.”
“Our teacher keeps class interesting by making jokes. This term, we have been able to test our presentation skills, which has been great since we lost out on that during the pandemic.”
“Our class is interactive and relatively fun. Our teacher assigns tasks and lessons that allow us to think creatively and critically. It is orderly, with clear expectations for all students.”
“I love how interactive our class is! We don’t always just focus on English. Sometimes, we take little breaks to focus on mindfulness or stretching. Those little breaks help us so that we can get our focus back.”
“Our teacher is really nice. Right now, we are studying myths, which is really fun because we are allowed to be creative and write our own myths. There are clear explanations and a lot of different ways our teacher presents information to us when we don’t understand.”
“Our teacher encourages everybody to share their thoughts and the classroom has become an open space for the sharing of ideas. Our teacher provides us with timely and helpful feedback in a critical, but constructive way. That is helpful.”
Well done, English teachers! You’ve obviously put a lot of effort into making your classes interactive and engaging for your students! And well-done students! You provided some great insights into your classes (and included unprompted IB learner profile attributes, too!).
