Students learned about a collage while learning about different forms of expression. Students attempted to create artwork using cutouts of paper inspired by the story of Henri Mattisse. They had the opportunity to observe some examples of collages and discussed the shapes they saw in them. Then they began by choosing colorful paper and expressed their ideas of how to cut the paper in the way they liked. They learned to be independent by making their own choices for their creation. All students were very enthusiastic about showcasing their creativity.
Kindergarten students were invited to come to school dressed up as someone else. They came to school in attractive costumes and with big smiles. Some dressed as people they notice in their daily surroundings, like doctors and police. Others dressed up as characters from a book, game, or movie they had seen. Students explored the idea of role-playing, sharing their perspectives about who the characters were. They acted out their characters, created a story, and learned to role-play together. Students enjoyed looking at their classmates’ characters and talking about themselves, all while developing communication and social skills.
