In year 4, we started the year off with our first unit of inquiry, “How We Organize Ourselves” and with a vibrant celebration for Indonesia’s Independence Day. Teachers and students alike are excited for what the year has in store for us and we believe that so far, we have started our year of learning off strongly.
For Independence Day we first gathered in the gym for a special Upacara that was largely organized and performed by our student body. It showcased a lot of different talents from our students as well as strong patriotism many of them feel. After that, year 4 came back to our shared are and classrooms for different game stations. There was the tornado game, batik designing, card games, a marble game, and a cups game. Students had fun while they celebrated Indonesia's birthday.
For our unit of inquiry and team teaching time students learned about various kinds of technology and the benefits and challenges associated with each kind. We also learned about our responsibilities when learning online in terms of child protection, good behavior, and being global citizens. These conversations also turned into really captivating and in-dept discussions around A.I, as students had a keen interest in talking about it. As a result, we also decided to incorporate these ideas into our assembly script. Students voted on different scenarios to use for our play. Once we agreed upon three, teachers wrote the outline, then students rewrote each of their individual parts. This gave students a lot of voice and choice in our assembly. We have been practicing for our play ever since.
