End of term is indeed a busy time for the Arts Department, especially in the theatre class.
On Friday, 28th November 2025, the Blackbox came alive with an extraordinary showcase of talent and creativity. This exclusive lunchtime performance, open to teachers and students, left the audience captivated and inspired. This year, the Year 11 Theatre students presented a powerful Solo Theatre Piece, presented by Maliha & Kei. Maliha’s work was inspired by Antonin Artaud's Theatre of Cruelty, showing a piece about toxic relationships. Meanwhile, Kei’s work was inspired by Katie Mitchell’s combination of Stanislavski’s method and Live Cinema, presenting a story about abusive marriage.
At the beginning of December, Y8 and Y7 were having their summative performance. They are performing a Greek Chorus, which focuses on vocal expression, exaggerated body movement, and unison speaking. While the Y8 is performing the Greek story script, the Y7 is presenting an Indonesian folktale from West Java and West Sumatra. Each group presented a creative interpretation, demonstrating not only technical growth but a deeper understanding of how the chorus serves as the emotional engine of ancient theatre. Both year levels impressed with their collaboration, discipline, and commitment to the craft.
All the performances not only celebrated the students’ hard work and dedication but also showcased the impact of theatre as a medium for storytelling and self-expression. This intimate and immersive setting provided the perfect platform for the students to shine, creating an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
A huge congratulations to all theatre students for their outstanding performances.
