The Year 11 Assembly took place on 18 November 2025. The learning profile attribute was Communicator. Here is the story synopsis.
Back in Year 10, the six of them were very close. They always sat together, worked on every project as a group, and laughed all the time. They were best friends. However, when the DP started, everything changed. With IAs, EEs, and constant pressure, they slowly grew apart. Messages became shorter, calls happened less often, and they kept saying “I’m fine” even when they were not.
The night before mock exams, they all ended up in the same café. Their laptops were open, notes were everywhere, and the atmosphere was tense. At first, no one spoke. You could only hear typing and sighs. But as the night went on, the stress turned into tired laughter. Someone made a joke, and the others smiled. Slowly, they began to talk again, just like before.
They stayed until midnight, laughing, complaining about school, and sharing feelings they had kept inside for months. When they left the café, nothing was perfect. But everything felt lighter. They realized they had not completely lost each other.
Global JayaSchool implements a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program that is aligned with the CASEL framework (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning). CASEL identifies five core SEL competencies—Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making—which are designed to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development across all year levels.
Each year level follows a developmentally appropriate SEL focus, with certain topics building upon learning from previous years. For Year 7, the key areas of focus include:
Self-Awareness: Understanding personal identity, values, interests, and strengths
Self-Management: Puberty and personal hygiene; making balanced and responsible choices
Social Awareness: Team building, effective communication, and inclusion
Relationship Skills: Conflict management, including identifying what constitutes bullying and what does not
Responsible Decision-Making: Online safety and making safe and responsible choices
These topics have been, and will continue to be, addressed during Extended Advisory or Year Level meetings held on Friday mornings.
Over the past three weeks, Year 7 students have engaged in structured learning and discussion on the following topics:
Friday, November 31: Conflict Management
Friday, December 5: Peer Pressure
Friday, December 12: Bullying, including cyberbullying
To conclude this sequence of learning, on December 12 Year 7 students collectively read and signed an anti-bullying pledge. This action symbolized their shared understanding of the importance of maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. The signing of the pledge was not an isolated activity; rather, it was a culmination of ongoing SEL instruction and is fully aligned with the CASEL framework and school policy, both of which emphasize the necessity of ensuring physical and psychological safety within the school community.
