On February 15, 2024, the Year 5 students have the privilege of welcoming Ibu Ratih Hardjono as a guest speaker for the unit “How We Organize Ourselves.” Ibu Ratih's extensive background and experience as a journalist enabled her to explain the topic of diplomacy clearly to the Year 5 students. Students were fascinated when hearing Ibu Ratih’s interesting stories about how countries communicate with one another through diplomacy.
As a culmination activity for the unit “How We Organize Ourselves,” the Year 5 students participated in Model United Nation activity, an activity that models how United Nations countries members try to come up with a solution to issues that affect many countries in the world, such as pollution. Students were confident and knowledgeable when speaking about how pollution affects the citizens of their country, what their country has done to reduce pollution, and why the countries in the United Nations need to come up with a resolution to solve the problem. Students also demonstrated their communication skills when they, as delegates, communicated with other delegates during the moderated and unmoderated caucus sessions in the Model United Nations activity.
