Year 3 ended their second unit of inquiry, Sharing the Planet, by presenting their Culmination Project. Students were empowered to choose any biome that they felt most passionate about. Once they decided on their biome, they needed to research this biome independently. This research would include the food web, geographical features, climate, animals, and plant life. Students then expressed themselves creatively by making a diorama of their biome. These biome dioramas allowed students to visually display all the knowledge they had gained from completing their research task.
They were also able to display their research by creating a poster demonstrating their overall knowledge of this biome. The poster was another chance to have fun and express themselves creatively.
Students then presented their Culmination Project to their classmates. Students showed their enthusiasm for this fun learning task in their presentations. Special attention was focused on good audience skills. Students were also encouraged to give constructive feedback to each of the presenters.
In the end, everyone learned a lot and had fun doing it.
On Thursday, November 4, Year 3 students visited the Indonesian Bank Museum virtually. Thank you to Ibu Astuti, our Year Level Parent Representative, who generously found out about the details of the virtual Museum trip. Once we finalized the arrangement, we were able to go on this trip.
Students were very impressed with the Museum. The tour guide was friendly and explained clearly the different aspects of the Museum. The tour guide also explained the history of Indonesian money and the history of the Indonesian Banking system.
At the end of the tour, the Museum gave a quiz with prizes. Three knowledgeable students were awarded a prize.
Many students were eager to someday visit this Museum to get the opportunity to play their interactive games.
Teachers as well look forward to the time they can sometimes share this experience with their students.
Students were eager to participate in our Show and Tell learning activities. This activity was based on our current unit of inquiry, How We Organize Ourselves. This unit is focused on money, goods, service, and the role of a consumer in our community. Students were given a maximum of five minutes to describe how their object was related to our current unit of inquiry. Students brought in currency from various countries, debit cards, e-money, credit cards, and vouchers. Students were able to demonstrate their prior knowledge of this subject.
At the end of this valuable learning, task students were allowed to reflect on what they learned from their classmates' presentations. They were also able to reflect on what they thought went well with their presentation and what they could improve upon in the future.
