The long-awaited Book Week 2021 was on November 1st - 5th, 2021. The Book Week theme was “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”. Like years past, Kindergarteners were very eager to participate and be a part of this eventful week.
There were many activities for book week, and Kindy participated in three of them. The first activity was a puppet show by Puppetaria. The second activity was a coloring competition, where students were asked to color a prepared drawing by the committee, and the third activity was Book Character Dress Up Day. Let’s take a closer look at each activity and see all the beautiful experiences the Kindergarteners went through!
The first activity was a puppet show performed by the well-known puppet group, Puppetaria. Actors performed the puppet show virtually due to the school's health protocols, but that didn’t stop the fun and excitement. Puppetaria introduced the children to Indonesian culture through visualizations and descriptions of its rich culinary history.
The second activity was a coloring competition for all the Kindergarten and Reception students. The students were given a paper with pictures and words of this year’s Book Week theme, and then they were asked to color the paper any way they wanted. The competition was held for a week, so teachers and students from each class could arrange when and where they wanted to color the paper. Good news for Kindergarteners, Aisha from Kindergarten B won 2nd place in this competition for her beautiful and neat coloring!
The third and last activity was Book Character Dress Up Day, where teachers and students dressed up as their favorite book characters. Kindergarten and Reception teachers joined in on the fun by dressing up as Eric Carle’s Very Hungry Caterpillar and all the food it ate. The students were just as excited and came to school dressed as many beloved book characters like Elsa, Alice, Captain America, Bumblebee from Transformers, and Peppa Pig. An engineer, princess, witch, boy in a raincoat, pumpkin, and panda joined in on the fun. Celest from Kindergarten A got 3rd place for the best costume on Book Character Dress Up Day for her cute and realistic Peppa costume! It was a wonderful week for the school community!
On November 10, Indonesian citizens commemorate a special day called National Heroes Day. This day is dedicated to our national heroes who have fought and sacrificed their lives for the independence of Indonesia.
To celebrate this particular day, parents and teachers prepared exciting activities at school. Students discussed what a hero is with their friends and the teachers in class. Some shared their heroes are their parents, teachers, doctors, nurses, and even Iron Man!
On November 10, students wore their favorite hero costumes. They joined the virtual Upacara ceremony that the school had prepared in the morning. They also watched some videos about heroes before drawing their favorite heroes on a particular card.
After Kindy completed the activities in the class, students at school were picked up early to join their friends who came with their parents by car. Students then walked a catwalk and talked about their chosen hero and why they decided on that hero. Finally, students took pictures in the incredible photo booths that the PTA had prepared. Before returning to the car, students also received souvenirs to remind them of this special day!
We all have heroes in our own lives. Let's learn from them so that we, too, can be heroes in our ways!
