The Magnificent Borobudur Temple
Pak Nanda (Buddhist teacher) joined Year 2 as our guest speaker to explain about the history of the Borobudur Temple. It was a great opportunity to have Pak Nanda as our guest speaker for Art. Students are learning how to make a collage of historical places as part of their learning engagement in their Art lessons. Year 2 are now more knowledgeable about the story of the Borobudur Temple and how people shared stories in the past using reliefs.
We’ve got letters!
As part of learning engagement in our new unit “where we are in place and time”, students experienced how to write a handwritten letter to a friend.
Students were communicators when writing a letter.
They shared experiences and stories with their pen pal, and at the same time demonstrated how to be an inquirer where they found out the ways of communication that people used in the past before many technologies and applications were invented to communicate in other ways.
Students will receive their letters around next week after teachers send the letters to the post office.
Let’s communicate by using semaphore flags!
Another learning engagement in our “communication then and now” week involved students learning about communicating using semaphore flags. While this invention was created many years ago in the 1700’s, this method of communication is still being used today in the military, boy scouts, and areas where communication options are limited.
Students showed enthusiasm when they created their semaphore flags together in class and on Google Meet.
Students demonstrated how to be a communicator when they created a word and their name by using the semaphore flags that they made.
Virtual experience “Museum Penerangan” TMII
Year 2 visited Museum Penerangan virtually last week on 25th November 2021. Students interacted with the museum hosts and participated enthusiastically during the session when they saw different kinds of tools that were used in the industry of film, news and radio in the past. Students are more knowledgeable after seeing the FORM of different inventions in the past that helped people to broadcast news and create movies such as the radio, tv and camera. They also showed curiosity by asking questions to guide the session. This has been a great experience for students to see these inventions in real life, even though we saw them virtually. Students really enjoyed the session and were able to compare and contrast some modern inventions that they are familiar with.
