Year 5 FIRST ASSEMBLY
Year 5 had the very first assembly! It was the very first time that me and my friends could organize a very important event ourselves! We were given the opportunity to create the slides, gather the performers from our talented friends to perform in front of the whole Year 5. It was a little confusing at first and challenging, but it was enjoyable and totally worth the lifetime experience as a 5th grader!
Although the assembly was online, it was still fun and incredible! The performers were Viola from 5A, Ayla from 5A, and Akeela from 5C. We also had Mathias from 5A who presented his action plan for Civics. Viola’s piano performance was brilliant and so outstanding! Ayla presented a drawing that she created. She is a potential artist! Then we had Akeela’s impressive performance, she danced beautifully. It was remarkable!
After the performances, we had an announcement for our Global Award winners. The Global Award for this week was Knowledgeable and Open-minded. Cila, Sieun, Dinant received the award for being Open-minded. Meanwhile Kinar, Raynard, and Adrian were acknowledged for being Knowledgeable. Do-young and Ayla were also appreciated for showing great audience skills.
Hopefully my writing about my online assembly experience will cheer you up and help cure your longing for an in-person assembly.
Have you ever thought that stories can be used as a medium to express ourselves? This unit is about How We Express Ourselves and apparently you can also pass down your culture, traditions, beliefs, and values from stories. Therefore, we were exposed to different stories through a rotation activity. We explored various traditional stories, mostly from Indonesia and some from other countries. We were put in groups so we got to experience all the stories.
We had ten minutes for each story. A story from New Zealand was personally memorable because it told about how Kiwis lost their wings. A native story from America about a man named Strong Wind was also captivating. There was also a story that is based on true story and apparently that sory was told as a remembrance of the Holocaust victims. But what made it unique, was that it was all told in a form of Instagram stories as if the girl named Eva was reporting the event to us herself. Then we explored Indonesian traditional stories, “Bawang Merah Bawang Putih” and “The Legend of Lake Toba”. “The Devouring Rock”, or in Bahasa Indonesia “Legenda Batu Belah” is apparently a traditional story from Malaysia. We also learned a lesson from an Arabic story titled, “The Lazy Donkey”. All the stories really taught us a lot for each of them has a message behind it. It was a great experience!
On 18 of August 2021, Year 5 had a fabulous day! We had a celebration for Indonesian Independence Day! We did a bit of a show and tell about various traditional foods from Indonesia called the Traditional Indonesian Food Festival! Every student and teacher chooses a food and made it as their background in the meet. We had many different types of food like, serabi, nasi tumpeng, rendang, nasi bakar and many more.
If you are wondering who made this Show and Tell of Traditional Indonesian Food it was Mathias from 5A. It was part of his action plan to promote traditional Indonesian food. His idea inspired Year 5 students to explore more about Indonesian traditional food and hopefully it inspires you, too!
