August 2nd - 6th, 2021, was a big moment for Kindergarten students at Global Jaya School. They joined school for the first time! There were feelings of excitement, suspense, and joy when meeting new friends and teachers.
Kindergarteners focused on learning everything they needed to know about the first week of school. They were introduced to their teachers, fellow Kindergarteners, the school campus, and their daily routine. They listened to their teachers’ video introductions with information about their names, favorite food, hobbies, favorite movies, favorite spaces in the house, and sharing who was in their families. The students were also asked to share the same information about themselves so their teachers and friends could get to know them better. Both classes also got to meet each other, so they could get familiar with the other Kindergarten classmates and teachers.
The virtual tour shown during Week 1 helped our Kindergarteners see their class, library, gym, and swimming pool virtually and safely from the comfort of their homes. They reflected that they were all excited and couldn’t wait to go to school in person one day.
It was a great first week for all Kindergarteners. Everyone in the community did their best to help our youngest members feel comfortable and welcome despite the pandemic. We hope they will continue to enjoy their adventures at Global Jaya School.
Google Meet Sessions:
Home-Based Learning at the beginning of the school year doesn't discourage us from commemorating national events of our country, Indonesia. Even though we cannot gather with many people in one place, luckily, we live in 2021! The technology is here, and we can use it to be together! Celebrating virtually is now standard, and it keeps us safe too.
On Monday, August 16th, Kindergarten students and teachers wore red and white outfits and gathered in Google Meet classes to virtually celebrate Indonesia’s 76th Independence Day. We listened and sang the Indonesia Merdeka song together, and then students participated in 2 virtual games. The first game was the socks race, where students independently put their socks and shoes on. This activity practiced their fine motor skills, which they need to be able to do when we return to the classroom. During the second game, children practiced their self-management skills by stacking books and arranging them to be neat and balanced. Both classes enjoyed the game!
On Wednesday, August 18th, Kindergarten students joined to watch the flag-raising ceremony. They saluted the raised flag and tried to follow the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya. This activity instilled a sense of nationalism in our students' souls, which helps develop character and identity as Indonesian citizens and community members.

The 76th Independence Day of Indonesia fell on August 17th. It is a special date for Indonesian citizens to proudly remember the day when the country proclaimed its freedom and began being an Independent nation. There are many ways to celebrate this event from home.
Our Kindergarten students independently completed activities at home like collecting red and white objects from around the house, making red and white juice, and making red and white flags. As the youngest school community members, Kindy students showed great curiosity and creativity while doing these learning engagements. They only needed help with electronic devices and sharp objects to cut while making the juice. We hope we can all learn that despite being at home during Lockdown, we can still enjoy time with classmates and family and have a blast celebrating Indonesian Independence Day. One thing is for sure, we are proud of Indonesia and living in this beautiful country! Merdeka!!!
