The presentation explained the history of Indonesia's influence in the countries. The presenter, Ibu Yuli, works in a national museum.
The presentation by Ibu Yuli included words in Bahasa that were taken from other countries. We learned about landmarks built by foreigners many centuries ago. Ibu Yuli explained the belief structures. She showed house structures that are based on other countries and instruments, Including bringing one. She made a great representation and explanation of the ancient, such as a Portuguese instrument and the batik patterns by other religions.
On the day of March 25th, we experienced a fun activity that Pak Jared carefully planned. We were requested to draw on a piece of A4 paper. However, we were only permitted to draw one side of the paper. We finished our drawings and then, Pak Jared collected them.
After a few minutes of waiting, he passed our drawings out to our classmates. Then, we were told to complete the other side, we wrote words backwards and used the opposite colors of the colors which were used. We learned about symmetry. Symmetry is when things are equal on both sides. This is part of our current geometry unit in mathematics.
When Pak Jared collected the papers, once again, he displayed our artworks on a bulletin board. After this exciting activity, we got to see our beautiful artworks get completed.
On the 26th of April, the Year 4 students conducted an assembly performance. This is part of their fifth unit under Where We Are in Place and Time. The students learned about how historical contacts with other cultures are reflected in a nation’s identity.
In the assembly, Year 4 students celebrated their diversity by sharing part of their culture with the audience in different ways. Students shared their culture and talents by using dances, singing, fashion shows, or playing traditional musical instruments. Year 4 shared their cultures in a special performance, all while showing appreciation for the history behind their traditions.
This assembly wasn’t just about putting on a show—it was about learning to appreciate each other's differences. By sharing their cultures, students are learning to respect and celebrate what makes each of them special.
In this assembly, students demonstrated their communication skills and the learner profile of risk-takers. The students developed their social skills by working together to perform and share knowledge with others during the assembly.
On Friday, April 26, Year 4 students conducted a Living Museum as part of the current Unit of Inquiry titled: Historical contacts with other cultures are reflected in a nation’s identity. During this unit, students learned about how their culture helped develop who they are today as well as how other civilizations had an impact on their daily lives.
The students had the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of this unit by choosing a person from their region, researching about that person’s history, why they are famous today, what their daily life was like and how they impacted Indonesia or the world today. Using this information, students created a “Living Museum” by pretending to be the person they researched, talking about that person’s life and the impact they made on Indonesia.
The students were able to demonstrate their research skills by finding specific information about different regions of Indonesia. They also demonstrated the learner profile of being reflective by understanding how outside influences affect who they are today.
