The PerkinElmer NexION 300X ICP-MS is a versatile instrument capable of analyzing a wide variety of sample types for their elemental composition.
Sample Types:
Environmental samples: This is a primary application, including the monitoring of water samples.
Food samples: The NexION 300X can effectively measure both macro-level nutritional elements and lower-level trace elements in digested food materials, such as grains and milk powder.
Pharmaceutical products: It's suitable for analyzing pharmaceuticals and determining the levels of toxicologically relevant elements.
Petrochemical and speciation solvents: The system's robust design with a free-running RF plasma generator makes it ideal for these demanding samples.
Solid samples: The system can be coupled with techniques like laser ablation for analyzing solid samples.
Samples containing hydrofluoric acid or semiconductor grade chemicals and Si wafer samples: Using inert PFA sample introduction systems allows for the analysis of these challenging matrices.
Capabilities:
Multiple operating modes: The NexION 300X offers three modes of operation: Standard, Collision, and Reaction, allowing for optimized analysis depending on the application and elements being studied.
High sensitivity and low detection limits: The instrument can detect many elements at very low concentrations, even below 1 ppt for some elements like Be, Co, and In.
Wide dynamic range: It can measure elements across a broad range of concentrations, from ultratrace levels to higher concentrations, without the need for extensive sample dilution.
Interference removal: The instrument utilizes a Universal Cell Technology that, in Collision mode, uses a simple non-reactive gas to remove many interferences, or in Reaction mode, uses a reactive gas to eliminate all interferences with minimal analyte sensitivity loss.
Robust and stable design: The Triple Cone Interface and Quadrupole Ion Deflector help maintain signal stability by efficiently removing un-ionized material and minimizing deposition on internal components, leading to less drift and longer-term stability, even with high-matrix samples.
Advanced software capabilities: Features like TotalQuant in the Syngistix software allow for the quantification of multiple elements based on the complete mass spectrum.
Flexible sample introduction: It can accommodate various sample introduction systems, including those for liquid and solid samples.
Fast analysis: The fast-scanning quadrupole contributes to rapid analysis.
In summary, the PerkinElmer NexION 300X ICP-MS is a powerful and flexible instrument well-suited for a wide array of elemental analysis applications across diverse sample types, especially where high sensitivity, interference removal, and matrix tolerance are important.
