Defeating the Enemy: How Superhero Comics Mobilized the American War Effort
Emily Zanieski, Georgia Southern University
Abstract: By examining superhero comics produced by both Jewish and non-Jewish authors from 1938 to 1945, this paper analyzes the different ways in which American superhero comics mobilized the general public in favor of involvement in the war. Through highlighting the themes in these comics, this paper demonstrates that comic books were used as a propagandist tool that was easily accessible to all Americans.
