In this residency, students explored how weather and natural disasters occur, and what impact they have on our lives. Informational text helped them understand a disaster - how and why it begins, grows, and ends. Then, they wrote stanzas of poetry to explain the phenomenon in their own words. Students also read first hand accounts from people who had survived natural disasters and used those accounts to create dramatic scenes. Finally, each class created, rehearsed, and shared their theatrical pieces, incorporating poetry, dialogue, and movement.
