The Livingston Language Initiative offered new opportunities for this 4th grade residency, especially with well-established teachers and a group of students who had experienced GSP the previous year. Focusing on reading and writing, the students explored two different pieces of source material about specific battles during the American Revolution. They were tasked with circling unknown words, underlining major story moments, and investigating the text through statue and discussion. Then, they worked in small groups to write scenes inspired by their new understanding of the source material. During the second half of the residency, these original student-written scenes were sequenced together to form theatrical pieces, which were then staged and shared.
