Paul Robeson was an Artist, Athlete, Academic, and Activist. He shaped, and was shaped by, the lives of his family, his teammates, his peers, and his community, and Paul Robeson Community School for the Arts is named in honor of his legacy. In partnership with the Civic League of Greater New Brunswick, Ensemble After School students created an original play with traditional spirituals based on the life of Paul Robeson. Inspired by his autobiography, HERE I STAND and his extraordinary voice singing traditional spirituals, the Ensemble After-School students worked together to craft a story, design a set, and rehearse a production that endeavored to honor the life and spirit of Paul Robeson. The students' work culminated in a final performance during the Paul Robeson Spring Gala of their original piece: HERE WE STAND.
