French is a required course in Grade 8. Students will have the opportunity to improve their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills, and to explore the cultures of French-speaking regions. Possible themes covered include greetings and introductions, sports and activities, food and ordering from a menu, school routine, family members, and characteristics. Students will have opportunities to communicate in French in situations that are personally meaningful and to gain confidence in their abilities as learners and users of the French language.

This course will be of special interest to all grade 8 students who want to complete their second language credit with Secwepemctsín Language. Students will not only learn and practice their oral language skills, but they will also learn about Secwepemctsín culture and about Secwepemctsín communities and their histories and traditions. Students will enhance their Secwepemctsín vocabulary and sentence development, participate in conversations, and begin to learn how to write the Secwepemctsín
Language.
