BUSINESS EDUCATION
MAC--11

This course is designed as an introduction to accounting concepts for those seeking entry-level employment skills or personal skills in basic accounting. Students gain an insight into the financial problems and solutions that benefit entrepreneurial and professional careers. Topics covered include: Changes in accounting equation, concepts in accounting-balance sheets and accounting equations, end of period reports, Journalizing and posting to a ledger, and using accounts and journals to keep track of changes caused by business transactions. Computer skills are desirable for this course.

Prerequisite: Accounting 11. This course is designed for students who plan a career in accounting, business management or a related field. It expands on the fundamentals covered in Accounting 11. The emphasis is on practical accounting. Projects that are similar to everyday accounting procedures and problems will be completed. Some topics covered include: Inventory control, accounts receivable and payroll.

This course focuses on developing advanced skills in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and graphics. Create websites for small businesses and learn to manipulate financial data. This course will assist in giving you the tools that you will need for business communications. This is a hands-on class where you work individually most of the time. All work is completed during class.

MENT-12

This course is designed to give students insight into what is involved in creating and managing a business. The need for creativity and communication is very important and is explored in-depth. Students will be required to do market research on a number of products in addition to creating a personal Venture Profile. Students will work with partners, or as a single entrepreneur, to organize, develop and implement a business plan to be utilized as a “Real In-School Venture.”
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

Grade 10, 11 and 12 students will be responsible for the layout of the school yearbook. Students will take photographs, sell ads to local businesses, design of advertisements. Grade 12 students will have more responsibility. Responsibilities include: photography outside class time; major layout creations; Gimp work; and a higher expectation of quality and dedication to specific assigned tasks. Senior students will help mentor the junior, inexperienced students. Students must be mature, self- motivated, organized and responsible. This course may operate as an after-school club. 4 credits will be assigned once the student completes 90 hours of service.

Learn the fundamentals of 3D modeling and animation. In this course you will learn the tools and principles associated with computer animation. Explore how physics, mathematics and art all integrate in the generation of realistic 3D animation. You will generate several models and videos during your time in this course with the final goal of creating your own unique animated short movie.
MMEDD12CA

Previous completion of Computer Animation 11 recommended. This course allows students to learn an industry-standard animation tool in addition to learning tools of their choice with the aim of creating 3D animated stories/simulations. Students will learn advanced modeling techniques and develop resources that assist others in developing their own skills. By the end of the course students will have created a number of 3D modeled scenes in addition to a handful of short to mid-length animation projects. There will be more focus on project management and efficient animation techniques than in Digital Animation 11
HOME ECONOMICS

There are two themes that alternate over two consecutive years for Senior Foods. The first theme is Classic Foods which includes popular foods prepared using culinary techniques and a wide variety of ingredients. Students will learn more about nutritious foods and the effects they have on the body. Explore eating local and experience a local farm tour in this course. Create your own food truck in a special project. The second theme is an International Foods course. In this course, you will enjoy the creative, complex flavours of International Foods. You will explore regional specialties, culinary customs, and holiday fare of various countries around the world. Prepare yourself for a culinary adventure. Popular foods will be prepared using new techniques and a wide variety of ingredients and flavours. Learn more about nutritious foods and the effects they have on your body. Explore eating local and experience a local farm tour in this course. Come and satisfy your longing for travel and savour the foods of the world.

Explore the world of fashion and sustainability. Areas of study include more challenging and difficult patterns according to student sewing levels. Seasonable craft items that may be made: Christmas stockings, Hallowe’en creatures for display or making hats and gloves for the homeless. The fashion industry, sustainable fabrics and mending techniques will be studied. The cost of the course will be determined by the student’s choice of patterns and fabrics.
TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
MTMET11

Everyone is welcome in Metalwork 11. No previous experience is necessary. The metal shop is a warm, inclusive, respectful and safe place for students to learn, explore and be creative. This course teaches you everything you need to know to safely and confidently use hand tools and machine tools to design and build your own projects. Beginner students will start with a predetermined project so they can learn basic metalworking skills. They will then be able to design projects of their own choosing. Experienced students will be able to begin designing their own projects much sooner as they already have the basic metalworking skills from previous classes.
MWWK-11
4 Credits
This largely creative course is designed to familiarize students with basic woodworking concepts and techniques. Students will learn how to design and construct furniture and other small projects. Safety will be emphasized in the operation of stationary and portable power tools and a variety of other hand tools. For the most part student projects will be self-initiated. The job skills taught in this course will help students develop good work habits. As well as practical skills, creativity and problem-solving are strongly encouraged. This course is an asset to those students who may be interested in pursuing a career in wood technology but is equally intended for those students interested in learning a creative and pleasurable activity.

Project categories can include jewelry, rings, metal sculptures, fused glass, stained glass and other creative glasswork. Students get to design and build their own creative projects and choose how intensely they want to explore and work in each category.

This course is the continuation of Woodwork 11. Competence, confidence and safety will be emphasized in the operation of stationary and portable power tools, and a variety of other hand tools. Techniques of proper planning, design and orderly development of self-initiated projects will be done on an individual or small group basis. This course is an asset to anyone considering a career in cabinet making, furniture design or for those interested in exploring their creative abilities.

In this course, students will learn about the design process and will have the opportunity to design and build a variety of projects of their choosing. Along the way, students will develop basic skills with hand and power tools, and learn about wood products and materials, basic joinery methods, and other associated topics. This is a fun hands-on course which promotes problem-solving skills and builds student confidence.
