MADEM10
4 Credits
This is an introductory course in which students study how an economy operates. Students will learn about key events in the history of money, banking, budgeting, supply and demand, investment comparison, taxation, and currency value. In addition, students will learn how to effectively manage their own finances. Topics covered will include stocks, credit cards, basic accounting and financial planning skills. This is an excellent course designed for students preparing for work in the world of business or for those just wanting to learn how to manage their own finances and become informed consumers.
Yearbook
MMEDD10
4 Credits
Grade 10, 11 and 12 students will be responsible for the layout of the school yearbook. Students will take photographs, sell ads to local businesses, and design advertisements. Grade 12 students will have more responsibility. Responsibilities include: photography outside class time; major layout creations; Gimp work; and a higher expectation of quality and dedication to specific assigned tasks. Senior students will help mentor the junior, inexperienced students. Students must be mature, self- motivated, organized and responsible. This course may operate as an after-school club. 4 credits will be assigned once the student completes 90 hours of service.
MCSTU10

This course will explore a variety of topics in modern computing including computer programming, 3D modeling/animation, and video game design. You will complete a variety of projects to introduce you to the skills and tools in each of these areas. At the end of this course, you will be prepared for senior computer courses taught at Sa-Hali Secondary.
MFOOD10

Foods Studies 10 is a practical and engaging course within the Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST) curriculum. Students are introduced to essential food preparation techniques and develop lifelong culinary skills by preparing a diverse selection of dishes, including soups, pizza, pasta, indigenous foods, breakfast items, and desserts.
A core focus of the course is on nutrition principles and exploring the social, ethical, and environmental factors that influence food choices. Students will engage in the design thinking process by observing context, developing meal ideas, prototyping recipes, and reflecting on how their creations contribute to individual, family, and community well-being.

This is a course for students who want to develop their sewing skills and techniques. Students will learn how to read and interpret pattern directions. They will have project choices according to their sewing level. Some examples may include: PJ Pants, Creative Monster Project, Tote Bags and Bucket Hats. The cost of the course will be determined by the student’s choice of patterns and fabrics.

Psychology 10/11/12 are designed to introduce the student to material that would normally be covered in a first-year psychology survey course, while giving the student the opportunity to determine whether a career in psychology, education, or human services might be for them. Sa-Hali Secondary’s psychology course offerings run on a three-year program. Meaning that students can take psychology for three consecutive years and earn credit for the psychology course based on the current grade they are in: students taking Psychology 10 – Family and Society 10, will earn credit for Psychology 10; students in grade 11 will earn credit for Psychology 11; and students in grade 12, will earn credit for Psychology 12.
Three-year topic rotation:
Year One Topics: Will focus on the science of psychology as well as the biology of behaviour. Topics of student include history and theory, research methods and design, motivation and emotion, sleep and dreams as well as gender and sexuality. Students will have the opportunity to take home a computerized baby.
Year Two Topics: Will focus on biological aspects of behaviour as such topics of study include history and theory, brain, body and behaviour, sensation and perception, mental illness, and treatment. Students will have the opportunity to take home a computerized baby.
Year Three Topics: Will focus on human development as topics of study including history and theory, infancy and childhood, adolescence, adulthood and aging and personality. Students will have the opportunity to take home a computerized baby.
MTMET10

Everyone is welcome in Metalwork 10. No previous experience is necessary. The metal shop is a warm, inclusive, respectful and safe place for students to learn, explore and be creative. This course teaches you everything you need to know to safely and confidently use hand tools and machine tools to design and build your own projects. Beginner students will start with a predetermined project so they can learn basic metalworking skills. They will then be able to design projects of their own choosing. Experienced students will be able to begin designing their own projects much sooner as they already have the basic metalworking skills from previous classes.
MTPOW10
4 Credits
This power mechanics course focuses on making projects that can be legally ridden after completion like powered drift trikes etc. Students learn to safely use hand tools and machine tools to design and build their own projects. Students are thoroughly trained to work safely and confidently. No prior experience is needed as the class accommodates students of any skill level. Students can work in groups or as individuals. Students have the option of building their own ride-on project to keep. Alternatively, students can be a team member to help build someone else’s project with them if they do not wish to pay for and keep the project for themselves. Basic theory of small engines, gearing, braking, speed, horsepower and torque will be included.
MWWK-10
4 Credits
This course is intended for students who enjoyed woodwork in Grades 8 and 9 and would like to further explore the creative and technical aspects of woodwork with greater freedom of choices. Students will be allowed to choose to work on projects independently or in small groups. Safety, creativity and the development of self-confidence will be emphasized through project construction using mainly power tools. This course is an asset to those students who may be interested in pursuing a career in wood technology but is equally intended for those students interested in learning a creative and pleasurable activity or hobby.
