Note: additional or modified procedures are being added to work with our Covid-19 operational plans
Procedures while Covid-19 is a factor:
Note: Any activity involving removal of a mask indoors should be done by excusing oneself from the room, leaving the room at least 10 feet from any people in the classroom (not 10 feet from the door) and performing the activity (eg: nose blowing, water drinking, & c.)
- Beginning the period: Enter the classroom with appropriate physical distancing. I will have sprayed the desks before you have arrived. Grab a paper towel & wipe down your desk. You can go to the trash can to throw out the paper towel after all have entered and the path is clear – briefly passing by.
- Leaving the classroom: When you have my attention ask permission. In general, only one student will be permitted to leave the classroom at a time. I am responsible for knowing where you are, so please get my attention before heading out and sign out on the sign out sheet by the door before leaving. I will typically allow anyone to leave when asked. Please do not dawdle in the bathroom as all bathrooms are single occupancy this year and others may be waiting. If you want to have a drink or have to wipe your nose, step out a few feet from the doorway, but where you won’t block traffic, and remove your mask for your activity there, and don your mask again before entering the room.
- Asking for help: Raise your hand and wait for me to call on you. If I am in the middle of another task, I may acknowledge you with a head nod before attending to you. Be patient.
- Turning in papers: I will designate a place such as a basket on my desk to receive physical work, however it is preferred that you turn in electronic copies via Google Classroom. Paper copies will still be accepted. When turning in work online, make sure you:
- 1. Have good lighting
- 2. Use a flat bed scanner or if using your phone, use an app that allows you to correct for keystoning.
- 3. Make sure the image is rotated to the correct orientation before sending it.
- 4. If you are sending a multiple page document, such as a lab, send it all as one file, such as a single pdf.
- Finishing a task early: If you finish a task early, remain quiet so as not to disturb others still completing their tasks. You may:
- 1. check over your work.
- 2. begin your science homework
- 3. read a science magazine or book
- 4. work on homework from other classes
- 5. read a non-science book.
- End of period: A minute or two before the bell, but no earlier, students in the rearmost should queue up with appropriate physical distancing, in single file. After Ms. McCracken’s class passes, proceed outward to the right, with students in the next row away from the door following, and then the next, and so forth.
- More procedures will be introduced as we need them.
