By the end of this unit, a successful student will be able to:
1) Calculate the momentum of an object (7.1; MSTE: Phys 2.5)
2) Calculate the impulse of an object (7.2)
3) Relate momentum, to impulse (7.2)
4) Interpret and apply Newton’s 2nd Law of motion in terms of momentum. (7.2)
5) Identify appropriate standard international units of measurement for momentum (7.2; MSTE: Phys 2.6)
6) Interpret the law of conservation of momentum and provide examples that illustrate it. (7.4 – 7.6; MSTE: Phys 2.5)
7) Distinguish between elastic and inelastic collisions (7.4)
8) Solve problems involving momentum conservation in one dimension (7.5)
9) Use mathematical representations to support the claim that the total momentum of a system of objects is conserved when there is no net force on the system (NGSS: HS-PS2-2)
