Adoption Application Process

Potential Applicants may see our pets via Petfinder, Adopt a Pet, on our website, or on our social media sites. On the pets adoption profile we have pictures and a bio about the pet. The steps the adopter follows if they want to adopt them go as follows.

1. Potential adopters fill out an application at www.gatewaypets.org/adopt

Please do not let your foster pet go a meet 'n greet or an adoption without an application, even if you know the potential adopter.

2. Adoption applications are received by the adoption team.

3. The applicant is sent an automatic response confirming receipt of their application and letting them know to check for any landlord restrictions or breed specific legislation.

4. The Adoption Team processes the application using the following process. This typically happens with 24 business hours.

a. The adoption team checks to see if the application is an initial fit for the pet.

b. If it does not look like a fit for that specific pet (like if the person has kids and the dog should not be placed in a home with kids), the adoption team will contact the applicant to matchmake them with another pet.

c. If the pet already has an adoption pending or multiple applications ahead of them, the adoption team

will contact the applicant to matchmake them with another pet.

d. If the application looks like a potential match, the application will be forwarded to the foster parent.
