Books left on cart -1/each book
Self-initiated project +1 - 5 points
Total points 25 per day (students may lose more points in a day than are
possible to be earned due to books left on the cart)
These points are totaled up each week and divided by 125 for all 5 day weeks and by 100 for all 4 days weeks. Weeks shorter than four days are generally added into another, longer week then divided by the total number of days x 25 points.
Absences immediately lose all daily points, since a student can not perform it he/she is not in the Learning Commons. Ways to make up these points are listed in the syllabus (see below for the link)
1. Students (Learning Commons Associates - LCAs) are to check the cart for books to be shelved at the beginning and end of each period. Books in a students' section should be shelved immediately. (The exception is the person who is at work at the desk). LCAs should dust and align all shelves in his/her section everyday. Two columns should be checked for shelving accuracy everyday.
2. LCAs should arrive in the Learning Commons (LC)before the tardy bell and should be at work within 30 seconds of the bell. Pencils, pens, paper, and other needed materials are expected to be with the LCA upon arrival.
3. LCAs are the face of the Learning Commons; therefore, every patron (staff, student, community member, etc.) should be treated with respect and given good customer service. LCAs should be non-judgmental of any items checked out or returned and are expected to keep patron records and transactions confidential. See the confidentiality agreement here. Though LCAs are expected to be helpful and friendly, he/she will not socialize with persons in the LC who are there to work or find materials.
4. Educational Media is a mostly self-paced course with fairly flexible deadlines as needed. LCAs should complete work in a timely manner, working around other duties in class. Work from other classes may only be completed after all Ed Media duties have been completed. See the syllabus for more on late and/or unacceptable assignments here.
5. LCAs should be the exemplar of the procedures and policies in the LC, not the exception. Food and drink should be kept in the production room.
6. Maintaining a clean and order LC is a full time job. LCAs are expected to pick up trash, move chairs and tables, as needed, keep books put away in the appropriate place and to clean up after his/herself and others. Before students move to other work, he/she should look around the LC to find if there are any issues that needed to addressed.
LCAs work in 45 minutes periods on different tasks. For a list of these tasks and explanations, please see the LCA Job Descriptions here.
