Week of 9/6/2024
A word from your Proud Principal, Mrs. Garcia:
As we wrap up another exciting week, I wanted to take a moment to share some positive highlights and updates from our school community.
This week, our students demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm in both their learning and extracurricular activities. From engaging classroom discussions to collaborative activities, it’s been wonderful to see their creativity and dedication in action. We are proud of their hard work and the positive energy they bring every day.
We are also grateful for your continued support and involvement in your children's education. Whether through helping with homework, attending school events, or simply encouraging your child to do their best, your role is invaluable, and it truly makes a difference.
Looking ahead, we have some exciting events and opportunities for our students! In the meantime, let’s celebrate the progress we’ve made together and look forward to another successful week ahead!
Thank you for being an essential part of our school community. Have a wonderful and restful weekend.

We are excited to announce that Picture Day is just around the corner! This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to capture a memorable moment of the school year.
📅 Date: Friday, September 13
Each student will have their picture taken, and you'll have the option to purchase photo packages.
We look forward to seeing all of our students looking their best on Picture Day!
If you are interested in being a part of our Multi-Cultural Night, come to the informational meeting on September 10 at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria!
Families, we want to do something we haven't done in several years, and we need your help! We want to bring back a Multicultural Night to Beaver Tech!!
This event will require families to join in to make it a success. Multicultural Night will be an exciting event that will allow us to introduce our Beaver Stars to different cultures represented through our diverse student body.
We are asking families to sign up to represent the country of their choice by setting up a booth on September 26 at 5:30PM.
Booth requirements: decorations (like a table cloth, unique items, or pictures) and an informative poster or sign representing a country. Food samples are encouraged but optional. If you do choose to include food, please make sure it can be served without heat and feed up to 50 people
While we encourage families to sign up in groups, we ask that no more than 6 people be present at the booth the night of the event to help ease traffic flow in the cafeteria. Also, we are limiting the event to 40 booths due to space, so please be mindful while signing up. We want to ensure every family has a chance to share their unique heritage!
If you are interested in being a part of this event, sign up here: Multi-Cultural Night Booth and attend the Parent Information Night on September 10 at 5:30pm in the library for more details.
Contact our Librarian Amy Woodruff, awoodruff@garlandisd.net , if you have any questions.

Check out these updates:
⭐We are required to have monthly fire drills, and our September fire drill will be on Friday, September 6th.
⭐Also, this week, our common area focus has been restrooms. We've been discussing the do's and don'ts of the restroom and the importance of keeping them clean for whoever comes into the bathroom after us. We also use common language for our bathroom expectations, which is to Go, Flush, Wash, and Leave.
⭐September is Attendance Awareness Month. Students who have perfect attendance for the month of September will be entered into a drawing to win prizes. We are also competing against other elementary schools in the district for the highest attendance. Help us show that Beaver is the best elementary school in the district!
⭐Check out the information below about PBIS and be sure to ask your student how they demonstrate being a Beaver STAR!
We're starting our first school-wide challenge Monday, which will focus on following cafeteria expectations.

The cafeteria staff and custodians will award 0, 2, or 4 points for each lunch. 4 points will be given if all rules are followed, 2 points for some rules followed, and 0 points for no rules followed.
The Rules:
In the line:

Voice level 0 unless you are ordering
Once you select something, you keep it
At your table:

THE GOLDEN RULE: Respectful Manners
Students will get these specifics during announcements on Monday. Please help us to encourage them during this challenge. The winning grade levels will get a special surprise to be announced at a later date.

College Week is September 16-20! Our Beaver Stars will be learning all about college this week. We'll celebrate with dress up days, games, and fun projects.
Spirit Days:
Mon. 9/16: Let's think about college! Wear your teacher's college colors!
Tues. 9/17: We're crazy about college! Wear your craziest outfit!

Thur. 9/19: We're dressing for success! Wear a career outfit!

College Week is a great time to start talking to your student about their future plans. College is just one option after high school. It's important for our students to know that college is for everyone!
Here are some ways to get your student thinking about college:
Take a virtual field trip of a college. Find virtual campus tours on YouTube about different colleges.
Help your child interview someone about their college experience.
Research a college your student is interested in.
Check out this college presentation from Ms. Sinclair.
Explore different careers and if they need a college degree. Check out onetonline.org for career information.
Design a college pennant about a college your student is interested in.
Check out this College Week Menu for more projects you can do with your student. Students can turn in certain projects for free college swag!
We are looking for responsible 5th graders to join our Safety Patrol team!
Safety Patrol helps greet students in the morning and makes sure that students safety get on buses and in cars in the afternoon.
This is a great opportunity for learning to be a leader, helping your school, and making friends!
If your student is interested, please have them fill out the Beaver Safety Patrol application here: bit.ly/spfall2024
For more information about Safety Patrol, check out our information letter here.
Students are chosen based on applications and teacher recommendations.
Hispanic Heritage month begins September 16 - October 15. Each morning during Hispanic Heritage month, students will be learning and celebrating Hispanic culture! Be sure to ask your student what they are learning about.
