Families, we want to do something we haven't done in several years, and we need your help!
We want to bring back a Multicultural Night to Beaver Tech!!
This event will require families to join in to make it a success. Multicultural Night will be an exciting event that will allow us to introduce our Beaver Stars to different cultures represented through our diverse student body.
We are asking families to sign up to represent the country of their choice by setting up a booth on September 26 at 5:30PM.
Booth requirements: decorations (like a table cloth, unique items, or pictures) and an informative poster or sign representing a country. Food samples are encouraged but optional. If you do choose to include food, please make sure it can be served without heat and feed up to 50 people
While we encourage families to sign up in groups, we ask that no more than 6 people be present at the booth the night of the event to help ease traffic flow in the cafeteria. Also, we are limiting the event to 40 booths due to space, so please be mindful while signing up. We want to ensure every family has a chance to share their unique heritage!
We will hold an information meeting on September 10th at 5:30 p.m. for parents who would like to participate. This meeting will provide details and examples of the booth and allow for questions.
If you are interested in being a part of this event, sign up here: Multi-Cultural Night Booth and attend the Parent Information Night on September 10 at 5:30pm in the library for more details.
Contact our Librarian Amy Woodruff, awoodruff@garlandisd.net , if you have any questions.

We are required to have monthly fire drills, and our September fire drill will be Friday, September 6th.
This week our common area focus has been bathrooms. We've been discussing the do's and don'ts of the bathroom and the importance of keeping the bathrooms clean for whoever comes into the bathroom after us. We also use common language for our bathroom expectations which is to Go, Flush, Wash, and Leave.
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Students who have perfect attendance for the month of September will be entered into a drawing to win prizes. We are also competing against other elementary schools in the district for the highest attendance. Help us show that Beaver is the best elementary school in the district!
Check out the information below about PBIS and be sure to ask your student how they demonstrate being a Beaver STAR! ⭐
Beaver is a PBIS school. We start each day with our school motto: We are supportive, team players, who are adaptable, respectful, and we shine bright! We are Beaver STARS! By following the star motto, students can earn super star tickets for a change to spin the prize wheel to earn a reward. We also have different challenges throughout the year that focus on different parts of the star motto and/or common areas of the school. Students really enjoy participating in these schoolwide challenges for a chance to earn a special reward.

Make a referral for the counselor to see your student here.
If your family needs assistance with food, clothing, or holiday help, please fill out this form! We will do our best to help you with resources from our community.
We will be celebrating You Matter Week during September 9-13. This is a week focused on Suicide Prevention. How do we do that with elementary students? We will focus on the importance of good mental health and our bright futures! Students will learn how important they are and how to practice self-care at a young age. Don't forget to encourage your student to wear bright or neon colors and sunglasses on Tuesday, September 10th because OUR FUTURES ARE BRIGHT!
I have enjoyed having your students in the WOW Room for counseling class! Beaver Stars come to WOW Time once a month for 30 minutes.
In August, students learned about the School Counselor and how I can help them. They learned about my role at our school and how I can help with emotional needs, friendships, problem solving, and future readiness. Students learned how to fill out a student referral form (the "purple pass"), so that they can make an appointment with me.
During the month of September, students will be learning study skills to become the best students they can be! Our younger students will be learning about listening with their whole body and our older students will be learning about using their time wisely, putting forth their best effort, and discovering their learning styles.
The beginning of the year is a perfect time to set good academic habits with your students. Here are some ways to help your student be the best student they can be:
Set up a work-friendly, quiet space at home for homework or nightly reading.
Help your student make a plan for their day. This will help them with time management and organizational skills.
Help your student practice their daily routine. This takes time, so be patient with them as they learn to stay focused and on track.
Encourage your student to make good choices at school. Remind them of your expectations for listening to their teachers and following directions.
Set goals with your student of what you and they want to achieve this school year.
Offer praise and forgiveness! Let your child know when they are doing a great job and forgive them when they make mistakes. It takes time to learn good work habits.
